History of Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls, located on the border between Canada (Ontario) and the United States (New York), consists of three waterfalls: Horseshoe Falls (the main one, on the Canadian side), American Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls (both on the U.S. side).

The area has been inhabited for thousands of years by Indigenous peoples, including the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), who considered the falls a sacred place. European explorers began documenting the region in the 17th century.

By the 19th and 20th centuries, Niagara Falls became a major tourist destination and a landmark for hydroelectric power, being one of the first places to generate large-scale electricity from water.
